La Cachette is a self-contained cottage that was recently completely restored. Constructed from the local white limestone – tuffeau – it sleeps four people in one double and one twin bedroom. There is plenty of wardrobe and drawer space, and all linen and towels are provided. These can be changed on request, for stays longer than a week.

A stairgate is fitted and a cot and high chair are also provided. Please note that due to the stairs the cottage is not suitable for people with physical disabilities. There is parking available in a fully enclosed garden offering privacy and security for dogs and small children. The kitchen/dining room has a washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and gas oven, and all cutlery, cookware and crockery are provided.

There is a comfortable sitting room with a tv/dvd player (UK Freesat) and a wood-burning stove. The cottage is heated throughout by electric radiators, and water, electricity* and gas are inclusive, as is wi-fi. A barbecue is provided. Up to two dogs are permitted but there is an additional charge of 10 euros per dog for extra cleaning.

The cottage is just a few minutes’ walk from the abbey and the centre of Fontevraud, where you can find a bakery/patisserie and a small grocery (epicerie) which sells bread on a Monday when the main bakery is closed. Most villages and towns in the area host a weekly market. There is a range of restaurants in the village, from a basic bar to fine dining, and there are numerous other restaurants in nearby towns such as Saumur and Chinon, each just a 20 minute scenic drive away.
